The 10 common sites of asbestos

1. Roofing: Asbestos was often used for roofing, especially in older buildings. Roof slates, corrugated sheets and roof shingles can contain asbestos.

Why is it important to detect and remove asbestos?

It is very important to detect and remove asbestos because exposure to asbestos fibers can cause serious health problems. When asbestos fibers are inhaled, they can lodge in the lungs and lead to lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis.

In addition, asbestos has been banned since 1993, but many older buildings may still contain asbestos. Therefore, it is important to conduct a professional asbestos survey and, if necessary, have the asbestos removed by a licensed asbestos removal company.

Asbestos removal

It is crucial to have asbestos removed by a licensed asbestos removal company because the process of asbestos removal can be complex and dangerous. Asbestos removal requires special equipment and techniques to ensure that no asbestos fibers are released during the process. In addition, asbestos removal companies must comply with strict safety regulations and rules.

What does asbestos remediation cost?

The cost of asbestos removal can vary considerably, depending on the amount of asbestos and the removal method. Therefore, it is not possible to give an estimate of the cost per square meter.

Is it possible to get a grant as a company?

There are no subsidies available for asbestos removal. However, there is a Stimuleringsfonds Volkshuisvesting (SVn) where property owners with an asbestos roof can apply for a loan to finance asbestos removal. To take advantage of this scheme, your application must be made through the municipality or province, provided your municipality participates in this scheme.

When are you required to have asbestos removed by a licensed company?

Under Dutch law, it is mandatory to have asbestos removed by a certified company before renovation or demolition work is carried out on a pre-1994 building.

Should I have asbestos removed by a certified asbestos removal company?
