For a large manufacturer of chemical additives, we demolished a train loading station including asbestos removal. To carry out the demolition work safely, we first closed the track with driving plates and wooden partitions.
Prior to the demolition work, all asbestos-containing applications were cleaned up from an aerial platform. After this remediation, the pipework was opened up at several locations in order to check for residues. During this inspection residues were found which led to the decision to drain and cold demolish the piping. We decided to do this together with the client to ensure the safety of the workers.
In this project, communication was a key component. Because we were working in a live corridor, ongoing work at the plant had to be taken into account. We kept the operations department informed daily of the work we had to perform. In order to avoid inconvenience, we chose, among other things, to choose an outside route for the supply and removal.
The work was completed safely to the full satisfaction of the client and within the agreed schedule.
