About the project
DCC carried out the full demolition of a former foundry in Gevelsberg. The project involved the complete dismantling of an industrial complex — both the buildings and the technical installations — on a site of approximately 22,280 m².
The work
- Full demolition of all buildings and dismantling of all technical installations and pipework
- Expert asbestos removal in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations
- All released waste streams separated on site and disposed of in an environmentally sound way
- Site fully fenced off; local residents informed in advance of the planned works by letter
Technical execution
The buildings consisted largely of steel structures and heavy concrete elements. For the demolition we deployed various specialised tools — hydraulic pulverisers, concrete and steel shears — matched to the material type. Several demolition excavators ensured an efficient process. Elevated building sections were dismantled under control with a mobile crane and brought safely to the ground, to minimise risks to personnel and surroundings.
Safety & surroundings
Throughout the project the site was fenced off and secured. For dust control we used misting systems, and with low-vibration equipment we prevented nuisance or damage to surrounding buildings. We actively maintained communication with local residents for the duration of the works.
